The Soul has Bandaged moments -
When too appalled to stir -
She feels some ghastly Fright come up
And stop to look at her -

Salute her - with long fingers -
Caress her freezing hair -
Sip, Goblin, from the very lips
The Lover - hovered - o'er -
Unworthy, that a thought so mean
Accost a Theme - so - fair -

The soul has moments of Escape -
When bursting all the doors -
She dances like a Bomb, abroad,
And swings upon the Hours,

As do the Bee - delirious borne -
Long Dungeoned from his Rose -
Touch Liberty - then know no more,
But Noon, and Paradise -

The Soul's retaken moments -
When, Felon led along,
With shackles on the plumed feet,
And staples, in the Song,

The Horror welcomes her, again,
These, are not brayed of Tongue -

Emily Dickinson --- 1862

Halloween

At a time when perhaps the most frightening thing of all is real life, should I try to scare myself, and perhaps you, further? Of course! What a fun way to feel alive.

Halloween is without a doubt my favorite celebration. Why? Hmmm... Part is because of so many good memories of Halloweens past and yet there is something exciting in the cooling off of the year, the leaves blowing, and the exciting and scary freedom to roam the night. Love it! And below you will find the links to the Celtic Origins of Halloween, Nightmares in Dreamland, Poe's Ocean of the Night, Ghosts on All Hallows Eve, the Bell Witch, the Graveyard, Vampires: Children of the Night, and The Mummy of Seven Stars...

About Miss Dickinson's poem, her emotional exploration in this one just seemed to fit the mood here. Very, very original for her time.
Spooky halloween to you! Denise

Below are links to the different areas of Halloween,
I hope you have time to explore them all.
